Tzu Lee: Hey, do you know where I could get like a comprehensive family tree of music, to show how all the various styles and people link? It's for something I'm doing for a school project.
DJ Mac : God, that would be so huge and never ending... I mean, take Indian music, it's pretty different, with more notes and a different structure to western music. African music has its own roots but leads right to jazz and blues, and a lot of rock music....
Anand: So what about music in England then?
DJ Mac: In England or the whole of Britain?
Anand: Well... the whole of Britain I guess.
Tzu Lee: Yeah, what about British Pop?
DJ Mac: Well that's just a small part of it. You could say it's got origins in the 50s and 60s, y'know, rock 'n roll and styles like blues and jazz that have offshoots like R&B and soul that came from America..... Britpop just has so many influences, like from the Caribbean and India... For example did you know that Missy Elliot's 'Get Ur Freak on' uses Indian Tabla
Tzu Lee: So what are you giving us tonight oh wise guru of the sound system...?
DJ Mac: Well, tonight, oh wonder of the dance floor, I'm gonna mix in lots of different things, you know there are some fantastic African rhythms and Asian sounds that go great underneath some dance tracks......
