   'Something personal about me'
My Dad used to go on about standing up for what you want even when it brings you hassles. He says he was on strike, years ago before I was born, and some of the other workers got him up against a wall and really threatened him if he didn't vote to go back to work.
He was brilliant after what happened to me and Nat, he really seemed to understand how, I dunno, we felt kind of numb and scared but really angry about how we couldn't do anything. He got really friendly with Nat's folks when we were both in hospital. I wasn't as badly hurt as Nat, I had a dislocated shoulder and bruises that lasted for weeks, but it was bad enough. I reckon they were looking for anyone to beat up and Nat being black gave them that extra excuse. It was definitely a race thing, no doubt about it.
