I'm Nathaniel's grandmother, from St Vincent, an island in the Caribbean, though I've lived two thirds of my life here. I came on a ship to Southampton in 1954, and then on a train to London. When I came I thought it was only going to be for about five years! But the pay wasn't as good as I thought it would be, and what with one thing and another, I stayed.
By the time I met my husband we were both settled here, so I've only been back to visit St Vincent three times in more than 40 years. When I retired I had a good job, so I'm looking forward to a happy retirement. I know people who have retired back 'home', but I belong here now, I don't want to go back.
I go to church every Sunday and I don't go along with Nathaniel saying he's a Rastafarian, not really, it just doesn't go along with my Christian beliefs.
